The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) accounted for about 70 percent of total USDA food and nutrition assistance spending in fiscal year 2024 (excluding spending on the Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer for Children Program). Child nutrition programs made up the next largest share, at about 20 percent. These programs include the National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program, Child and Adult Care Food Program, Summer Food Service Program, related State administrative expenses, and other related costs. The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) made up about 5 percent of spending.
