Description

The Food Environment Atlas (FEA), developed by USDA's Economic Research Service (ERS), has been updated with more recent data, new indicators, and an improved, mobile-friendly platform.

In this webinar, ERS Agricultural Economist Alana Rhone provides an overview of the updated tool, demonstrates its new features, and shows how the FEA can be used to better understand how food environments interact to influence communities' access to healthy and affordable food and diet quality.

This webinar focuses on the latest updates to the Atlas, including:

  • Expanded data on store and restaurant availability, nutrition assistance programs, community characteristics, and other related areas
  • New indicators reflecting emerging food shopping trends, such as dollar stores and general merchandise stores
  • New features like address lookup and indicator filtering to help users explore county-level data more efficiently
