Introduction
Shellye is a research agricultural economist in the Food Assistance Branch of the Food Economics Division. Her research focuses on how Federal, State, and charitable food assistance impacts food insecurity. She maintains a strong research interest in the relationship between agricultural production and food security.
Background
Shellye was an economist in the Conservation and Environment Branch of the Resource and Rural Economics Division until 2016. Prior to re-joining the Economic Research Service in 2025, she was a member of the faculty at Indiana University Bloomington’s O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs.
Education
Shellye completed her PhD in agricultural economics from Purdue University in 2013. She also holds an MS in agricultural economics from Purdue University and a BS in environmental studies biology from the University of Southern California.
