Saleem Shaik is branch chief for the Agricultural Policy and Models Branch in the Market and Trade Economics Division at the Economic Research Service (ERS).
Background
Saleem joined ERS in 2021. His research focuses on the effects of farm and trade policies on farm income, efficiency and productivity. Prior to ERS, Saleem was at North Dakota State University (NDSU), where he served as a professor of agribusiness and applied economics and the director of the Center for Agricultural Policy and Trade Studies. His primary focus was the development of a baseline farm model to evaluate policy and trade for North Dakota. He taught Applied Risk Analysis, Farm Management and Production Economics, and Analytical Methods for Applied Research at the undergraduate and graduate level. He supervised 8 M.S./Ph.D. students and served as a committee member for 46 M.S./Ph.D. students. Prior to NDSU, Saleem was involved in crop insurance and aquaculture projects at Montana State University and Mississippi State University.
